A beautiful child’s dress, originally designed for a cotton yarn, but shown here in our “Avani” cocoon stripping silk.

The picture is of the sample piece made for me by Elizabeth B. for me (I don’t know if she has a Ravelry account) before Stitch & Craft 2011. I love it. My Ravelry Project Page.

The pattern is written for a Cotton/Acrylic blen yarn of similar yardage. As Cotton has a similar hand-feel and stretch as Silk, when looking around for sample knits to provide clothing inspiration, myself and the sample knitter thought that pairing Elenka and Avani would fit the bill, and it does, perfectly!

The pattern really shows this yarn off to good effect, and given this yarn’s cost, no more expensive than using cotton.

Materials:
Substitute [MC] – 150g-200g Dyed Fibres Exotica Avani (100% Cocoon Stripping Silk ; 183m per 100g)
Substitute [CC] – 50g Undyed Fibres Exotica Avani (100% Cocoon Stripping Silk ; 183m per 100g)
1x 24-inch US #7/4.5mm circular needle
Smaller sizes will require 1x 16-inch US #7/4.5mm circular needle for upper body.
Larger sizes may wish to have 1x 32-inch US #7/4.5mm circular needle for lower skirt.
1 US #C/2 / 2.75mm crochet hook
Stitch marker
Stitch holders or waste yarn
Row counter (optional)
Knitters’ needle
1.5m ribbon, 1.25cm wide (optional)
Scissors

Gauge:
19sts/20rows = 4 inches in Ripple Pattern (for skirt)
17sts/20rows = 4 inches in Daisy Pattern

17sts/24rows = 4 inches in stockinette st [for substitution purposes]
